I've had the misfortune of fighting at two sieges almost entirely using guns and it's crystal clear that they need improvements
1) Suppression should highlight enemies like how shell shock does. With the high player render distance, it's very easy to lose track of who you're firing at from long distances. Now imagine getting two people to coordinate machine gun and rifle fire on the same person, it's really hard, especially if there's many people fighting near them. A visual indicator for suppression will make it *a lot* more viable
2) Machine gun recoil has to be lowered. Seriously, It's really hard to land more than a couple of shots before recoil forces you to stop firing and readjust your aim, and that's even after you removed the ability to auto fire machine guns, this makes them very frustrating to use. I agree machine guns should have high recoil over time but this is too much, too quickly.
3) Rifle damage needs to be buffed even if it's only by a little, every rifle kill I've seen is from people getting a lucky shot on a pvper who's already about to die. People keep saying using guns require no skill but it's like they've never used them, it's very hard to accurately fire at far away people *especially* if they're moving and strafing. If they have Speed 3 then forget about hitting them. It's so underwhelming to see a difficult rifle shot do 2.5 hearts of damage which most people instantly heal. If not general damage then at least buff headshots.
4) Bullet velocity might need to be increased because right now they're low enough that people can easily dodge or flee from them, this is particularly the case for machine guns but rifles suffer from this as well.
Fighting with guns on ccnet feels like a waste of time right now, it's *very* rare to actually kill an equipped player with them, they're frustrating to use and as a gunner in war it feels like your only role is to annoy people enough that they retreat to preserve armor durability. In my opinion these changes will improve this.
