This is just a idea dump, i dont think this would be implemented in a update but idk.
Fighters and bombers are very very underused imo and i think its because of the lack of variety, i may be higly wrong in this aspect but i have these ideas in mind for a while now.
So i introduce to you ideas for a aircraft rework.
Firstly, Fighters and Bombers are split into 2 weight classes, Regular and Heavy (like the tank)
Light aircraft are 100-300 blocks, they are nimble and small but one well placed hit with a AA gun would kill it.
Heavy aircraft are 300-600 blocks, they are big and slow but are heavily armed with bombs or cannons.
Regular Fighters are of the light aircraft class, they are identical to the current fighters but only limited to 100-300 blocks, their machine guns are going to be analog to small caliber machine guns (7.62 or 7.92), they deal no damage to all blocks aside from minor damage to slabs and carpets(or any soft material like wool), thus they can only be used to fight other aircraft or blow off decoration from a tank or whatnot. They are the fastest aircraft in this list, and it gives the pilot as much visibility as a turret, however they must be at least 1 chunk from any town in a siegezone for the effect to work.
Regular Bombers are also of the light aircraft class, they are also identical to their current bomber counterparts but limited to the small size, they can carry 4 bombs at max even if the percentage allows for more, this makes them useless if its not for the fact that they can fly much higher than a fighter, thus being able to avoid AA fire, this is the only aircraft able to fly higher than any other. This also benefits from the increased visibility to aid in high altitude bombing.
Heavy fighters are the first heavy aircraft class, they are the only plane class to have autocannons, these heavy bois can pack what would be analog to a 40mm bofors aa gun, a semi automatic cannon capable of killing light aircraft with one shot, they can either fit one heavy aircraft cannon or 6 machine guns, these also can fit 2 heavy machine guns, these HMGs can deal minor damage to full blocks and major damage to partial blocks like slabs or stairs, one HMG is equal to 3 MG, so players can customise having 6MGs or 2HMGs or 3MGs with 1HMG or a cannon. Do remark that the guns must be 1 block from each other so heavy fighters have to be big to fit the armament, which is prime targets for aa.
Heavy bombers are like their light counterparts, however they can have as much bombs as their percentage allows for, they can also have another component, Sentries.
Sentries allow for automatic aiming of a MG-esque gun to a enemy, these sentries can also be controlled by a player, which allows for a greater accuracy because the automatic aiming is horribly inaccurate.
