While I do like the fact that guns create an alternative playstyle compared to swords, it seems that in terms of infantry combat the sword has become non relevant. Sword combat is loved and preferred by a part of the community and is iconic at this point. It should become more viable by making these changes:
- Pistols do too much damage. The idea of a sidearm is to be last resort if you need to finish someone off and do not have time to reload. They are doing more damage than a main weapon. A pistol shouldn't be able to deal 7+ hearts of damage within 2 seconds regardless of their range limitations
- Melee weapon hits (from swords, axes, anything that stabs) should apply a "stunned" state to the player hit, preventing them from using guns for 0.25 seconds which should lower guns dps, making swords a preferred weapon for 0-5 block range.
Or optionally instead of the stunned state, all guns do noticeably less damage for ranges bellow 6-8 blocks
