My issues with the current system:
- Sieges last too long.
- Siege can be unfun, winning, or losing.
- Forts take up too much space and for the most part, look completely hideous.
- The system is not creative, nor interesting.
- Tactically limited...
New system proposed.
Setup:
- Ready-made maps would be set up, with different themes depending on where the siege is (island, grasslands, desert, red desert, Jungle, Mesa).
- This map would have 5 strongholds or capture points, and 2 bases on either side opposing.
- To win, one side must advance from one capture point to the next (this would be done by the capture point closest to your base and the last being the furthest) you win by owning most of the points of conquering all of them (cancels the siege session immediately - after 15 minutes).
- Vehicles from nations and resources can be teleported in (there would be a week prep period where this would occur).
- [if not possible there could be a /server prep where you put resources into that server base and it will eventually become the siege base for the map]
- The ability to siege would be less frequent to remedy this.
- There would be 3 siege sessions over 3 days and at different times lasting 2 hours each.
- The team that wins the most sessions wins.
- The Map would be available to break blocks, but the ability to place blocks should be somewhat reduced outside bases to prevent massive fortnite style structures encouraging movecraft and personnel to make the best use of the land.
- The 3 seige sessions would be (GMT):
Friday evening
Saturday afternoon
Sunday evening
(this could be adjusted to best suit players).
What will this change?:
- Strategy would become vitally important, and ambushes and other forms of defense would be apparent... this makes for more fun and exciting gameplay.
- To have a nation, you no longer need to dedicate multiple months on a deep-slate block, this is good if CCnet is to gain new nations and a new playerbase.
- Gameplay would be more fun without ganks and other nefarious methods of defending a fort, it would active rather than passive.
- You no longer must sit at a banner for hours, which reduces burnout and makes the game actually fun.
- Fights will be more photogenic, and easier to advertise.
Other:
- I have had this idea since coming back to CCNet after playing a lot of 'Hell Let Loose' (not a minecraft server), I have discussed this with several coalition players (while I was involved) and a good portion liked the idea.
- No one likes the Fort system... or at least no one who does can defend how mind-numbingly draining it is.
- I was inspired also by how fun the PVP server was. When the PVP Siagon map is more fun than actual war... well why not model war after it. When Nations was down and everyone was in Server PVP.. that is the most fun I've had in a siege.
- I have been to every dunlace siege, and multiple ravenrock sieges, and despite spending hours there... not one of them have been the slightest bit fun. Even the ones we won felt more relief than actual excitement. Games are meant to be fun...
