The Rapid firing guns arent very fun to use,
I want to suggest we break down guns into 3 categories, and instead of having tons of them essentially have 3 guns but with different skins almost (depending on what side wants what).
Catagories:
Sniper Rifles:
- Sniper rifles should have reduced damage to the body, but reward greatly for headshots.
- When holding a sniper rifle you should have some kind of visual buff (seeing enemy players highlighted).
- Velocity system, To prevent shotgunning - There should be instead of a damage drop off in range but the inverse.
- Chunk extending when scoped
- Damage: 30-60% health depending on range
Bolt Rifles:
- Bolt rifles would act as a mix between SMG and Sniper rifles.
- They should be jack of all trades, being able to be fired fast enough to win a mid-range engagement, and do enough damage to justify a longer loading time however, they would suffer against melee in closer range.
- Damage between 30-40% of health
SMG:
- SMGs would be handy at close range, with a severe bullet drop-off
- They would provide suppression at close range
- Damage between 3-5% of health
Shotgun/TrenchGun
- Would do Sniper damage at close range,
- Users would incur a health penalty of 2 hearts
- High-risk hight reward strategy, de-incentivises ganks and banner forts
Example of balance,
A shotgun would decimate a rifleman but a sniper rifle would decimate the shotguner (due to shotguns less health)
Machine Guns and Suppression:
- Suppression would inflict debuff on the enemies, that being turning off any sort of Speed, Jump, Strength
- Suppression would be inflicted by Machine Guns and Dreadnought Aarty or other Forms of artillery (apart from tanks).
- This would make it vital to :
A) Destroy all Field Cannons and sink any Dreadnoughts
B) Target Machinegunners
So you can see we've added secondary objectives WITHOUT really adding another banner
On the flip side of Supression would be Resolution gained through:
- Amount of damage delt
- Control of banner
- kills
Resolution would provide:
- Minor damage and Healing buffs
- Could be used in future to add more things
Suppression and Resolution are best imagined on an axis, you will likely end up being rewarded with Resolution based on secondary objectives. Neglecting them and attempting to focus on solely Banner PVP would give you a debuff.
This is in an attempt to move away from a more boring banner PVP we have now and add more elements.
Game design is pretty much creating fun problems for the brain to solve, that's what makes the brain happy. So by adding more elements that intertwine we are doing so in a way that doesn't require removing forts or changing the system.
