Okay so sailboats on CCNet right now are nice, BUT I think there are some things that could be changed about them that wouldn't really affect balancing, but would certainly make using them more fun.
1. So a singular piece of gunpowder can make 12 4-inch shells, which are far more powerful than small cannons... however that same one piece of gunpowder is used to load the cannon for a sailboat for every ONE shot. There should be a new Slimefun ammunition type called "Powder Charge" that is made from gunpowder. I think a singular piece of wool and gunpowder should make 12-24 powder-charges. These would be loaded instead of normal gunpowder into small cannons. This may encourage more use of cannons on sailboats. I need to experience the feeling of battling another wooden ship sailing the high seas while blasting pirate music.
2. Sailboats should have a toggleable Direct Control mode to go from the current sailboat DC to normal naval DC so that they can move diagonally.
3. Small cannons are extremely weak, but there are still a very limited number of them allowed on wooden warships. The number of small cannons on sailboats should be as follows: Cog: 4, Caravel 14, East Indiaman 24. A lot of wooden warships, like the famous British Man O' War, had two or even three decks lined with cannons.
4. Small cannons shouldn't be destroyed the second one of their wool blocks are broken. It should be the last wool block on the cannon (the one with the tripwire hook and torch on it).
5. I made an earlier suggestion, but I might as well put it here. Small cannons should have the black wool replaced with blackstone. Just plain-old blackstone. Blackstone should also be added to turrets so that we can have wooden steam ships from the early 1800s that experimented with turrets. I built a lot of replica ships and do my best to make them as functional as possible, so this change would be super useful for that.
6. Wool on sailboats should count toward very little, if not none at all, of the damage percentage to them, BUT, if a certain percentage of the wool is destroyed, then the ship should either travel at a significantly slower speed and have a much longer rotation time, or be incapable of moving entirely until repaired. This is so that an attacking ship can disable a sailboat without destroying it and allow for boarding.
I don't think any of these changes other than maybe 6 would affect balancing negatively, as these are still just sailboats, and a single 4-inch shell strike causing a fire can sink even the largest of sailboats. I just think these changes would make using sailboats more fun.
