Key terms:
Pushing: The act of ramming into a craft and pushing it head on
Merging: The act of 2 ships swapping blocks due a glitch
Drifting: preservation of momentum after turning
Boxing: using smaller ships to cut off larger ones
1) Dreadnoughts should be able to push smaller craft.
The act of boxing, usually done by destroyers or cruisers positioning themselves in front of dreadnoughts has really hurt their ability to act as the backbone of the fleet. Too often, a dread has been surrounded by ships (due to speed) and killed. This is not only unrealistic but unfun. This mechanic would ensure Dreadnoughts cannot be boxxed, it is as follows:
- Ships attempting to get too close to dreadnought broadside (within a 7 block range) will lose speed
- Ships in front of a dreadnought, will enter a brief stuck phase where they cruise where the dreadnought is pushing them before they can move out by going forward. This would be deadly for destroyers (who would instead have to use the new entity torpedos to box dreads instead of their body).
- Dreadnoughts cannot ram other dreadnoughts.
2) Dreadnought acceleration:
- Dreadnought speed should be increased, however, the rate of acceleration for dreadnoughts would be slower than other crafts.
- Dreadnoughts would not slow down as much when rotating, ensuring they don't have the very sluggish feeling of the previous test.
- Dreadnoughts would have smaller drift than destroyers, which would apply on rotation but to a lesser extent
- Dreadnoughts wouldn't be able to instantly reverse, but only slow down into a reverse
3) Cruiser acceleration
- Cruiser acceleration should be halfway between destroyers and Dreadnoughts
4) Debris and small blocks
- Ships should be able to push debris out the way or pass-through
- this could be done by giving terracotta and concrete passthrough status but adding some kind of hitbox to prevent ships from phasing
