Currently, hoppers are slowed down by a large amount on ccnet to prevent lag machines. However, this is not where the primary source of lag from hoppers comes from. Instead, lag primarily comes from the calculations that hoppers do to pull items. When a hopper does checks to find if it should take items, it checks for inventories above it. The hopper then checks every slot in the container to see if it should pull, which is why composters are used above hoppers oftentimes. If it doesn't find an inventory, it searches for inventory entities and item entities, which is the laggy part. Now while yes, decreasing hopper speed does technically help this, it hurts honest people trying to make simple auto farms like me and someone could still easily construct a lag machine by just spamming hoppers. Therefore, I believe a better solution would be to instead introduce a hopper limit per chunk, while returning hoppers to normal speed. This limit would most likely be something like 16-24 hoppers per chunk. This way, people can still use hoppers for their intended purpose while also still preventing lag machines.
