This idea proposes the addition of Galvanization and Carburization/Tempering to both Towny and Nations: A way to increase the durability of Iron Gear and to give Zinc a good use.
Lets first describe how Galvanization would work:
- In a proper workbench, like a Smithing Table or the Runic Anvil, you can put Iron or Chainmail gear and "update" it with a Zinc Ingot. This would add a level of Unbreaking to the thing, and unlike the Solid Rune, you could stack this process up to level VII. Maybe less, maybe more, depending on what is finally decided.
- IT WOULD ONLY WORK ON IRON/STEEL GEAR.
- (Optional): The amount of zinc needed for each "Galvanization operation" would be proportional to the desired next level of Unbreaking to attain. Example: To add Unbreaking I, a single ingot would suffice. From Unbreaking V to VI would cost you 6 Zinc Ingots. If the maximum level you could attain was level X, to reach it from 0 you would need 55 zinc ingots)*
* If wanted to be more punishing, the required zing could scale up in an exponential way: 1 zinc for Unbreaking 1, 2 for level 2, 4 zinc for level 3 up to 64 for unbreaking VII, turning this into the natural limit)
And now, Carburization/Tempering/[A better name] (Final name is reserved for Admins to take).
- Consists of a custom enchantment similar to what Runes grant, with similar mechanics. (Ex: Could not be put in a book.)
- All gear made out of Steel or Damascus Steel would have this custom enchantment by default (With the exceptions that the implementers may decide)
- It effectively serves as a baseline Unbreaking 3~4, putting the actual durability of iron/steel items (except Armor, that is calculated in a different way) at 750~1000 points, still a bit short of Diamond but enough as to be a good intermediate before it. Exact values would be decided by Admins or Devs, obviously.
- This includes Shears and Flint and Steel, if they were to be carburized/tempered.
- Unbreaking from Vanilla Enchantments, or Solid Rune, or Galvanization could stack with this.
- You could carburize/temper iron gear by putting it in a proper working place (Could be a Runic Anvil, a Heat Pressure Chamber, a custom crafting or similar that might fit), along with (Or maybe without) iron dust and carbon, consuming an amount poportional to the iron cost of the item (Ex: Carburizing/Tempering an Iron Chestplate would cost 8 iron and 8 carbon)
- (Optional) A way to skip all of this could be to make Steel usable to make normal vanilla Iron Gear with the only tweak being that it would have the Carburized/Tempered/(whatever name is chosen) custom enchantment.
- (Optional) Chainmail armor would have this by default, as it is made with Slimefun Chains, that are made out of Steel.
Any opinions are welcome!
