Right now with wing-mounted turrets on warships, such as HMS Dreadnought, they break the second you try using them with a single remote tool and require more than one remote tool to operate properly which is extremely inefficient.
My suggested solution to this would be to have a line on turrets that does as follows:
- "Guide" would be a line on the turret that you want the wing turrets to mimic, such as the frontmost turret. This makes the wing turrets face whatever direction the Guide turret is. This can be further nuanced with "Guide 1" or "Guide 2" if you are going to have rear-mounted wing turrets so that the "Reverse" line doesn't break them.
- "Follower" would be a line on the wing-mounted turrets. They would face whatever direction the Guide turret is facing.
- For example: If you use your turret tool and rotate your turrets starboard, the starboard wing turret will naturally rotate to face the same direction. The port-side wing turret will usually be blocked by a wall or armour bulkhead and will not rotate. The issue right now is that when you rotate your forward and starboard turrets back to face the front of the ship, your port-side wing turret will rotate bring the guns to bear on the port side of the ship, which is not what you want. My suggestion would mean that even though you used the remote tool to rotate your forward and starboard guns back to front, the port-side turret wouldn't move and would continue facing the front because it is facing the same direction as the Guide turret.
I think this would open the doors to a lot more design creativity for naval movecraft as a whole, especially when making replicas or lightly-armed warships such as corvettes or armed merchantmen.
