So i saw the torpedo update not long ago, and thought to revisit an old idea i had. That was to make tanks more... how should i put this... strategic?
Basically this gives Tanks (henceforth called Light Tanks / Lights in this post) and Heavy Tanks (henceforth called Heavies in the post) a firepower rating just as ships have.
many of you guys would say: "This just makes tanks more difficult for new players to learn" "Nations with many tanks either have to rebuild or redesign them" and "This is just too complex, many people wouldnt grasp it"
To that i would say:
1) New players arent likely to form a new nation anymore this late into N2, they would most likely join a larger nation instead. Moreover, most new players i saw dont make their own tanks, they just use whatever tank they see on the front anyways.
2) If a nation has so many tanks, why cant they just replace them? If they are rich enough to get a tank fleet so large it becomes a pain to refit them, cant they just use the resources that they have to, you know, refit them? Heck the designs in this suggestion isnt even too radical, means almost no vehicle has to be changed, but change is still recommended.
3) If you guys think tanks with this suggestion are too complex, why are you guys still building ships??? They are just as complex if not more with the torp update, and yet nations still strive to have fleets multiple dozens large. Plus, there are some battlefields where tanks are basically required to take, so if you are complaining this while still building massive ships, I'd say you are no more than a lazy person.
Anyways rant over, lets go over the changes shall we?
The first change was to the firepower of a tank, these vehicles have firepower options too boring when compared to ships, hence I have a few suggestions to change that.
Cannons of tanks will have 3 main types:
- Cannon
-Howitzer (not the same as the truck ones)
and
-High-Velocity Cannons
Lets go over each one step by step shall we?
-Cannons
Cannons are... very much self explanatory, they are almost identical to the original cannons seen on Lights and Heavies today. These guns are the "Balanced" option, providing good firepower against armor and infantry.
-Howitzers
Howitzers are basically heavy guns that exclusively fires explosive shells, they excell in killing infantry but suffers when killing other tanks. These guns provide a solution for tankers to deal with infantry without the need of an artillery man in the sidelines.
-High-Velocity Cannons
High-Velocity Cannons, or HV Cannons, are cannons specifically designed to destroy armor. They can deal massive damage to enemy tanks but they lack in anti-infantry work, these guns also is not good at destroying terrain nor fortifications, which means any tank armed with this cannon is exclusively used in tank combat. (Basically no fort drilling with this cannon)
Another suggestion is regarding Redstone Blocks.
I saw that when you reduce armor in a tank, it increases the speed, but the speed increase is so miniscule that it is not really worth the reduced armor. So i propose a solution, The more Redstone Blocks you have on the tank, the faster it goes.
In essence every percent more redstone blocks you add (rounded down), you can get an increase in speed. As redstone is a relatively expensive commodity, it gives tank designers a dilemma on if they want a faster tank or not by using more redstone.
This is all i have as of now, while i understand this may be a bit too much for the programmers to do, i believe that this suggestion will make tank combat far more interesting.
Thank you all for reading :)
