Actually if you want to make space, in the jungle or in a place with a lot of leaves (savana) or not conventional leaves, the faster way you have with items, is using molten felling axe and destroy the trees for making part of the leaves fell, or the ability (kinda slow), I saw recently some people that used tnt for fast demolishion but that way is rude and can make issue of griefing type. For this reason, if is possible for one of the runes to be extended to the shears, even with reduced effect, would be a great help for cleaning forests areas without risking to grief with fire or tnt or losing hours searching for flying leaves block
