Adding a cooldown for shields in Minecraft PvP is an excellent idea to prevent spamming and promote skill-based combat.
Objective: Balance the usage of shields in combat by introducing a short cooldown after blocking, preventing shield spam and encouraging strategic play
Proposed Mechanics:
1. Cooldown Period:
After a shield successfully blocks an attack, a 1-2 second cooldown is applied before it can block again.
During this cooldown, the shield remains raised, but it does not block incoming attacks.
2. Visual Feedback:
The shield could display a subtle crack animation or glow effect while on cooldown.
A sound cue (like a metallic "clang") could also indicate that the shield is temporarily disabled.
3. Attack Stagger:
When a shield user gets hit by a critical strike (jump attack) or an axe with the "Disable Shield" mechanic, the cooldown is increased by 50%, adding more depth to countering shields in combat.
Benefits:
Prevents Abuse: Stops shield spamming, forcing players to time their blocks more carefully.
Enhances PvP Strategy: Encourages a mix of offensive and defensive tactics rather than relying on shields alone.
Balances Tools: Gives swords and other weapons a chance to shine, as shields are currently overpowered in close combat.
Promotes Skill: Players need to anticipate attacks and manage cooldowns, increasing the skill ceiling in combat.
This feature would be perfect for both casual survival and competitive PvP. What do you think?
