
I think cannons in CCNet should have a calibre mechanic.
Increasing the calibre (length of barrel) increases the shells range and velocity at the cost of a significantly increased reload time.
For example, take the current 12 inch gun. Let's say its current barrel length is .45 calibre. If the barrel were to be lengthened by one stone brick wall, that increases it to .50 calibre, giving it almost the range and velocity of a 14-inch/45cal, but increases its reload time by, say, 20%.
The opposite might be hacking the end off the 12-inch/45cal by one block to make it a 12-inch/37cal. This would decrease its reload time by, say, 15%, but massively reduce its shell velocity and range.
The hope is that a mechanic like this would allow for much greater variety in ship design and will hopefully be a stepping stone for greater nuance to come about movecraft.
This could even be added for tanks to allow for greater variety in them as well.
