As I was minding my own business in the middle of the Atlantic on a cargo ship, I was suddenly attacked by a rogue submarine. I managed to escape unscathed, however I wanted to try and sink the submarine with a new ship from my port- only problem is that a submarine can easily outrun a destroyer by outrotating it due to the submarine's lack of acceleration mechanics (drift), and a corvette has no means with which to even damage a submarine unless the latter is surfaced. Submarines can do an immense amount of damage to ships without even sending a full salvo of torpedoes downrange. This is fine, but only if submarines could more fairly be hunted down so that they can act more as the powerful glass-cannon that they're supposed to.
I propose the following solutions; these can be combined or only one of them can be used- I think they will help all the same:
- Add depth charges to corvettes. Two of them should be fine. That way they can act as anti-torpedo craft alongside destroyers, albeit with less firepower.
- Increase the damage range of depth charges. Not a very good solution, but a solution all the same.
- And the one I personally prefer- simply decrease a submarine's speed to around 14m/s OR reduce their speed to 15.5m/s and give them acceleration mechanics.
Hopefully these will help balance out submarines without making them useless like they used to be.
