As we all know, CCnet has a problem with player retention.
New players keep leaving because after they grind up some money and make their own town,
they find themselves alone in their own little base. They are leagues behind of any other relevant nation
and their progression is locked behind finding spawners, grinding levels to excelsior to mine them,
buying donator rank or convincing a donator to mine spawners for them,
And SF that they might not be interested in or not even understand it.
If they attempt to recruit people to join their cause and progress together, simply nobody is ever going to join their town,
because everyone else is busy making their own town and falling into a same rabbit hole.
When you think of it, there is really not a good way to start playing for an average player.
Sure, it is not impossible to actually get started, find some spawners, pay a donator to mine them for you,
build an exp farm and grind up some sets for PvP, and then take some time to actually learn it.
But that is a very, very fine filter, that filters out way more than 90% of players who join the server
This also means that established nations have difficulties recruiting new people, because everyone just tries to start their own nation, and "dies" trying.
I have suggested to make pre-made nations and towns that would be run by staff, but nobody agreed with me on that.
So, what I think could be a next best thing to do is, have "Featured Towns"
Those are towns that would get an NPC on the spawn that you can click to join them,
think of like how you can click an NPC to teleport to a continent of choice.
And those towns would simply be towns that are made by normal players, and approved by staff to be featured.
Requirements for that would be:
- Be toggled to open, so everyone can join even if leader is not there.
- Have some clear "progression" planned out for joining players, for example, collectable farm, shop that buys farmed items, and a shop that sells maxed pickaxe (idea is that players shouldn't just be left there wondering aimlessly what to do next)
- Have enough permissions for player to be able to exit the town after spawning on home block (you can't spawn players into a "locked" basement)
-Have active leader that seems responsible enough to have his town featured by server
-Meet some form of "beauty standards", this can be subjective and decided purely by staff, but spawning players into ridiculously ugly towns paints a bad picture of server and should be avoided
-Economic system that functions without required interference (you can not just say "we share all items, but we need to trust you first before we can give you perms" because then players could join and end up never getting the perms)
-Have available empty plots and reasonable tax rate
-Have decent enough clarity, you can not throw new players into a "maze" of elevators and underground tunnels and expect them to know what to do
Basically, the town needs to be promising, a place that Zaify(or other staff who have authority to decide that) would be comfortable to spawn new players into(if new players decide to click the NPC)
To become featured, Town leader simply needs to ask a staff member to check his town out, briefly explain the way it is supposed to function, have its looks checked for "Beauty standards" and if it passes, it can then be featured on spawn.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
-This suggestion doesn't limit anyone, if you do not want your town to be featured, you can simply ignore it, I do not want people to skip over half the stuff I said and then assume requirements are meant for EVERY town and become outraged and fight against it.
-New players get to choose if they want to join the featured town, if they still just want to make their own, they can, but there should be an option that lets them change their mind and still join "Featured" towns if they become bored with making of their own, maybe a chat message that sometimes repeats and tells people to check out /featured towns (which would just list the featured town names) and then /t join (Name) to join them.
