Improved Direct Control for Land Vehicles Back

Since the December 5th rule was implemented many people started building appropriate roads inside their towns, thus allowing the use of land vehicles (mostly trucks, of course) on them.

But driving using Direct Control inside a dense metropolitan area such as Königsberg or Miami is a very annoying thing. The current cruise speed is way too high to let precise turns without crashing into walls or signs.

I suggest the creation of a Direct Control similar to the one existing in airplanes, with ability to strafe and different speed settings (gears) controlled by the movement of a clock around your hotbar. It could move in both forward and backward directions at the same speed or have a single reverse gear, like in real life cars.

Stick movement must remain untouched.

The throttle works on aircraft because the clock both rotates the craft and fires its weapons. Furthermore, all the weapons are aimed and fired using right-click only.

This could not work the same way in a truck. Pressing F while holding a clock to rotate anticlockwise actually registers as a left-click (blame Mojang). This would fire the AA guns on AA trucks.

Let's say we keep using the compass to rotate instead. The problem here is that you can't actually switch to the compass, because switching slots will change the throttle.

I like the idea, but as you can see, there are some challenges in implementing it. If you or anyone else have any ideas on how to address them, I'm all ears.

What about two different cruise modes? One for slow, precise movements, and the other the current direct control mode?

Would be cool for the cruise modes to have stages like fighters. maby you could impliment a sign which you can toggle the speed? like a gear thingy
