Here is an observable fact about Nations: players have a strong tendency to gravitate towards the strongest and largest nations, either by merging into them or joining them outright.

It isn't difficult to understand the reasons why, but this is problematic for the gamemode.

Why? Because "mega-nations" that govern the entire world stifle politics and snuff out many smaller, more regional nations before they can even begin to exist. Why found or join a nation like that when you can be assured of a comfy spot inside a superpower? If you want an example of this, look at the eastern half of Brazil where several towns have opted to join Balkan-based Thracia, or India where towns have chosen to join the Scandinavian Nordic Empire. The requirement for towns to be within 4,000 blocks of a nation's non-peaceful town helps, but doesn't fully address the issue.

Why 10,000 blocks? On N1, the limit was 8,000 blocks, which was too low. At the beginning of N2, the limit was 10,000 blocks – which is reasonable for most nations. Examples of towns that stay within this limit are Kushiro in Japan (OE) and Ignis Glacies in Antarctica (Shinseistan). 12,000 blocks, on the other hand, leads to the rather absurd situations I pointed out earlier.

This is certainly unfortunate for your Alaskan town, but I think the edge-cases here don't justify the change not being implemented. Of course, if it doesn't have the intended effect, it can always be reverted.

I personally think it should even be smaller even though it would screw me up like Zaify mentioned here (Ignis Glacies Mayor). In IRL, a Nation was/is tendency stronger if it's cohesive and somewhat uniform. Besides, it seems kinda overpowered in a geopolitical standpoint if a single nation could almost rule 2 continents outright without counting their influence on other non-adjacent towns/nations such as occupation, vassalage or alliance.

What you can do Berry is relocate your Capital to better center if you want. I'm not sure if it would help but it's something worth noting for.

most mega nations are european nations that can fit 99% of their stuff in 1-2 towns and they ditch the colonies
this wont affect mega nations and will just affect everyone else more

It is rather annoying nations like GNE have a foothold round the entire globe, assuring unholy levels of domination from the Americas to Asia. If this were a server where there were multiple superpowers like historical servers with Franco, British and Germanic empires; it would be a different kettle of fish. It is observable however that domination of a few worldwide nations is not healthy. It is better for smaller nations as weaker nations would aspire to be bigger and squabbling between smaller and more nations would bolster up the lacking diplomacy and geopolitics of the server.

In my opinion, the change is most definitely a step in the right direction, the colonies will have to now fend for themselves and forge their own paths rather then a dictate from Europe.

If the Mega nations like Thracia and GNE have a siege in Antarctica they'll send 40 ppl to Antarctica no biggie

I mean, if you really want your nation covering a large area, whether or not it's in Europe, it's definitely a reasonable change to have to have multiple scattered non peaceful towns in your nation. It is absurd when a nation covers a stupendously large area with just one single fort located anywhere in the 12k radius.

Also replying to sad frog, "If a mega nation wants an area they will just make vassal" well then they'd have to also defend the vassal's non peaceful town lol, it's the same as not having a vassal and just creating another non peaceful town in the nation in order to invite towns further out from the original fort of the nation.
