i believe first we should give it a try, by nerfing the damage, instead of making them main weapons, more of a support weapons than like... secondary pistol which does 2 hearts. rifle which does 4 to head, yknow

also torque, trust me, if it sounds like skill issue, you cant use sword in combat you'll just get absolutely deleted by pistol

Boukirchin, you had plenty of time to test these out before hand and provide feedback then. Why did you not try and experiment during that time ?

Instead of immediately removing a feature that was publicly tested for a while, try coming up with alternative methods of combating guns effectiveness (like my suggestion :P)

Ye King i m already experiencing them rn , and i did in the test server, and it s absolutely op, i may agree that removing them rn is kinda absurd and we should give them a chance , but the most important thing is that they must get some changes, they may get nerfed or maybe they need to be harder to use, it doesn t rlly require any skills, also the fact of being spammed by guns by many people is kinda hard to solve only by nerfing the damage, but i don t deny the fact that there may be some solutions

i dont think they should be removed quite YET, but since theyre new, they will be rebalanced over time (hopefully)

Ofc every negative response is toxic for sword user mindset that bring 90 ppl from HCF servers to their sieges. Now local ppl can fight back which is a good thing however Bulletproof armour with 40-50% reduction should be a thing

I didn t say that, King was respectful and i wasn t saying he was toxic, and ik that ccnet isn t only a pvp server, if i wanted one like that i would just leave and i m gonna have more fun, it s just a suggestion cuz many people were complaining about guns, but like it s not also logic that people who comes and have only few hours playtime can win against some people that spent a lot of hours of their life on the game just by spamming guns, if guns are harder to use it s gonna be better

LeDuxBerrie, hes got a point though, its kind of ruining sword pvp and making it useless, youre god damn lucky you didnt experience a large war with guns, or you'd be getting one tapped by 3 guys with springfields

would have been better if you didn't lose sets in this server when u die in a siege zone and instead take a dura hit so dying to guns would be more acceptable

from what I have seen servers become very toxic once set dropping is allowed and keep inv is turned off, it took me some time to see what the other players and plugin devs meant, servers where stuff don't drop in siege zones have a comparatively chiller community

To sum up, a compromise would be to re-introduce the bullet proof chest plate

So yes, you can actually try and push someone with a sword if you really wanted to, but this new way of dealing substantial ranged damage would actually incentivise people to construct wilderness trenches or other forms of defences to avoid the sightlines of rifles

points dont mean anything at all in sieges nowadays, you can get a kill worth of points back in 30s of capping

It's true that guns are more potent. It's also true that some elements of gun damage (e.g. Gewehr 98 headshots) were overpowered. Said elements have now been rebalanced.

I would like to point out, however, that guns are a means to an end, and not the end itself. We do not have guns for the sake of having guns. Rather, their intention is to give the average player the ability to meaningfully participate in combat without being relegated to a support role. I do believe they fulfill this vision. Whether they do it in a way that is acceptable to most people remains to be seen.

For this reason, I think making a judgement on whether guns should stay right now would be far too premature. I am conscious of the fact that this is a paradigm shift in PvP, and that many vanilla PvPers will not be comfortable with these changes. I will say this: let's give it a chance, and see if it has the intended effects. Remember, guns have been secondary weapons for over a year and outright removed for the past two months. Let's see how nations respond and evolve to these changes. Then we can finally put this question of whether an alternative PvP system can reinvigorate the server to rest.

Honestly Zaify I like the new guns, I might be a pvper but seeing someone is able to use them without them being dead weight do be amazing, CCNet is not a pvp server and there are tons if you just want vanilla pvp anyway. This is not only me telling but some pvpers I know from our nation do say so too. Only problem is that laggy people find it hard to use guns because of the response time.

Although some rifles inflict headshots that insta kill you :( but they can get balanced over time

guns are great and let people enjoy everything ccnet has to offer, now I'm much more likely to participate in sieges because the PvP is more dynamic and not entirely dominated by children who spend most of their playtime in duel hub

To expand upon my previous comment, I am going to explain why I thought updating guns was necessary.

The PvP ability of the "geopolitical server community" has been steadily increasing since 2020. Many builders, roleplayers and casual players have left or been forced out. What remains is an increasingly insular and elite community.

Here we need to remember the objective of Nations. Nowadays the term "geopolitical" is understood to mean "Towny and PvP", but Nations aims to be geopolitical in the actual sense. We want there to be diplomacy, strategic interactions and purposeful conflict, because this creates interesting gameplay. However, the opposite is happening on here and other so-called "geopolitical" servers. The focus has shifted towards optimizing the PvP experience for PvPers, while other types of players are — at best — an afterthought. We have escaped the quick deaths of other geopolitical servers because of our unique features, but that doesn't mean the server isn't suffering.

We have had the same large nations dominate the server for almost a year, locked in largely the same war and alliances. Wars have lost their sense of purpose and are fought for the sake of loot and PvP. People are coming to fight at sieges that they have no business in, even if that entails fighting against allies. New nations often have zero PvP ability and cannot do anything meaningful. The environment is stale, but — most importantly — fragile, and people know it. Nations have told me, "If you punish us, we will quit and your server will die, because there will be no-one to fight."

In my opinion, there was a decent chance the server would have died a slow death if it carried on its previous trajectory. Nations has lost much of its dynamism because the average Minecraft player is not a PvPer and not interested in learning PvP to an advanced level. People who do this are the exception, not the norm. 40,000 people have joined Nations. 600 of these are semi-regular players, and I guesstimate around 60 are active PvPers. This is a server where we want a diversity of nations and players. In that context, it is bad game design if 90% of the active playerbase are liabilities who are only useful in support or grinding roles, and it is bad game design if you need connections to PvPers from other servers to succeed in conflicts.

This rework of guns is an attempt to reverse this trend — to create a "great equalizer" that allows a wider range of nations and players to flourish. It brings me no pleasure to sideline vanilla PvP. I firmly believe gun combat can never be as thrilling or generate as much adrenaline as vanilla PvP. But it is not healthy for the server if a handful of elite players can take on endless amounts of lesser players regardless of what resources they have access to or the strategy involved.

With all that said, here are the metrics with which I will judge the success of this update:

- New player retention
- The number of new nations/growth in new nation player counts
- The number of regular players

As I said before, I don't want to have guns for the sake of having guns. If guns bring about a positive effect on these statistics, then that is certainly a good thing. But if they don't, there's not much point in keeping them around.
