Using Explosive, it should be several times faster to break these structures than it is to place them, so the time investment would not be worth it. So what am I missing out on here? Clearly it cannot be that simple, because people still find it effective to build these structures.

timing is very important, zaify. many fights and sessions have been won just because the right wall was placed right before or during a fight. it may take more time to build a wall, but it can stop a side from escaping during a fight. this usually ensures that the side that places the wall wins that fight. winning a fight can decide who caps the banner or possibly even wins the session, so it's actually a big deal. the wall may be able to be broken faster than it can be placed, but usually not in time, especially with combat tagging. now imo this is a fair tactic that both sides have the ability to use and can be countered with other methods. players building walls so close to enemy ganks is very risky and can lead to the player being knocked into the enemy ganks, so it's a very high risk high reward scenario

however, using shipyards to build these walls instead makes it stupid op, especially for the attackers. the reason why timing a wall being built is difficult is because there are usually smaller skirmishes before the big fights take place and this will prevent most traps or walls from being built due to combat tagging or being knocked into the gank, but shipyards can be built while in combat and safely away from the ganks. if the player really wanted to, then they could just hide in claims (which are completely safe for the attackers) while a wall is built around the enemy ganks stopping enemies from retreating and easily winning the fight. not only that, but the players can't even break the wall for a period of time (which can be the reason a fight is won like previously stated) because it is piloted by a shipyard while it's being built. this creates a very low risk high reward scenario, which is kinda dumb

so in other words, placing walls in front of ganks isn't op and is a fair siege tactic, but shipyarding walls is op

Look, 99% of the glass pane usage you are complaining about is happening at sieges and forts/siege towns. Don't pretend like some menace is going around placing glass around random towns on the map and ruining experiences for players. It is strictly used to block enemy ganks at forts and siege towns, and is being used by both attackers and defenders in sieges. I will say, the shipyarding method is quite op but staff have already declared that not longer legal.

Obviously, going to random towns to spam glass would be annoying for the whole server, but this is a scenario limited to siege towns/forts and usually right before or during a fight. If you want to say that blocking ganks is too OP as a form of meta for pvp then be my guest, but you're argument here is completely flawed.
