I am suggesting that we add a debuff resistance potion to counter the use of weakness in sieges. This potion would work like fire resistance, 8 minutes of resistance to debuffs.
This suggestion is coming from players who have used weakness extensively since the beginning of n2, and still benefit from it but are opposed to the current way weakness is used in PvP. I have talked to many players who both like and dislike weakness, and the community consensus seems to be that weakness is badly balanced at the moment. This includes myself, I have abused weakness more than most but I still believe it has to be balanced.
Killing players at sieges is harder than ever without trapping because of how prevalent the use of weakness arrows is. Instead of weakness being an interesting strategy that only a few players used, now weakness arrows are used in almost every fight by both sides. What this means is that weakness gives neither player an advantage, but both players are forced to use weakness to compete. This is an uninteresting but necessary mechanic that is part of almost every fight, with the only side effect of the mechanic being that everyone dies less.
Pros of weakness (for the player)
- The player has a tool to effectively take 40% less damage and therefore dies less.
- If the player is fighting someone without weakness, its almost a guaranteed win (given comparable skill)
Cons of weakness (for combat as a whole)
- Everybody dies less, for the individual this is great, but combat is so much more boring when nobody dies
- Everybody is forced to carry this one thing just to compete with everyone else, but often gains no advantage from doing so
- Another side affect of everyone dying less is that strategy has less effect. eg: If you want to make a surprise push of banner, it doesn't work because everyone does way too little damage to get any kills.
- Players are incentivised to resort to trapping and ganking inexperienced players for kills
Common Arguments Debunked:
"It helps in-experienced players"
1. Inexperienced players often wont have access to weakness at all or have the skill to utilise it effectively
2. A PvPer with weakness will actually target in-experienced players more because those are the only players who will die too such low dps
"Adding a debuff potion will make weakness useless"
1. Removing weakness as a whole would be the only way to make weakness useless, players still have to obtain and use debuff potions which takes up transport space and inventory space during fights.
2. Weakness as it is adds 0 complexity to combat, it must be altered to become an actual interesting mechanic.
3. eg: the existence of axes hasn't made shields useless
